Stian Bam

Dates: 12 November until 13 December 2019

South African actor Stian Bam will be presenting his latest series of drawings in his first solo exhibition at Rust-en-Vrede Gallery in November 2019.

Stian works predominantly in charcoal, building up several layers to create dramatic monochromatic narratives. He is heavily influenced by Baroque art, a movement known for its dramatic compositions, emotional exuberance, powerful use of chiaroscuro and the substantial contrasting of light and shadow.

Stian has a humanistic approach when selecting his subject matter, choosing to focus on the human narrative, the philosophies behind myths and legends, mortality, vanitas and transcience, represented by objects. He finds the similarities between Christian iconography and classical mythology interesting and uses this as the foundation of his creative endeavours.

The exhibition opens on 12 November 2019 at 19h00 and concludes on 13 December 2019 at 13h00.
