The Collector of Dreams
Margot Hattingh
Dates: 19.08.2014 – 11.09.2014
This collection of captured dreams is a series of images sparked by everyday life, events in the news, stories that she read and the dreams of people connected to her.
In this media age we are constantly bombarded with terrible events and situations beyond our control that makes us feel anxious, worried and depressed. Dreaming is the result of the subconscious trying to make sense of the things that are happening around us.
Dreams defy logic, but they always tell a story.
They are the stories we tell ourselves to cope with life. The artworks become a dialogue between the artist, her dreams and yours, a way to hook into the story of the viewer, thus connecting our stories. Margot does not set out working with any clear idea of the outcome. It all starts with a scribble and a prompt from the subconscious… and the images start to appear.
If you are interested in having your dream captured by Margot, you could write it down and e-mail it to the gallery. We will forward it to Margot – perhaps something in your dream captures her imagination and it could become part of a future exhibition.
