Light

Curated by Ann Marais

Dates: 03.06.2014 – 14.08.2014

Cape Town is an exciting place to be with our status as ‘Design Capital of the World 2014’. With this in mind, innovative, collaborative exhibitions at the Clay Museum have been introduced in 2014.

Along with ceramics, the exhibition programme for the year will feature creative works in various other disciplines such as painting, photography, fibre, paper, wood, jewellery etc.

In June an exhibition entitled “Light”, curated by Ann Marais will feature five highly talented ceramic artists – Betsy Nield, Ralph Johnson, Christina Bryer, Yvonne Thurtell and Sarah Walters – together with the young, exciting, up-and-coming photography students (under the guidance of Department of Head, Chad Roussouw) from the Ruth Prowse Art School – Wandiswa Metswaya, Luke Houba, Charis Hall, Kelly van der Watt, Matome Masipa, Shae Hermann, Zoe Hellaby, Michael Parris, Bryce Barnard and Caroline Philp.

This Exhibition explores the physical and aesthetic possibilities of Light. Light is fundamental to our lives and has been used in a myriad of ways – it can focus, penetrate, diffuse, glow, highlight, create shadow, etc.

“Light” as subject matter opens up a world of creative possibilities, exploration and experimentation. The Ruth Prowse Art School photography students will explore the possibilities inherent in a cyanotype photographic process.
